A customer brought me an Alaskan big horn sheep that had been mounted about 5 years ago and asked me to clean it. As you rub your hand across the hair it will break off in hundreds of short pieces. Is this common with this species or was there a problem during the tanning process?
Thank you for any respones.

This is symptomatic of sheep that have been left in cabins with varying spectrums of temperature and humiditie. The hair will become brittle and shatter when brushed.
The reason that sheeps hair is breaking is because whoever tanned it used bleach on it. which makes the hair brittle. And by the way the alaska bighorn you talk about is called a dahl sheep.
