More tannery troubles!

I just received a bobcat and lynx back from a tannery (after shipping them a second time to be dry tanned - not wet tanned) and they came back very greasy. More than very greasy - they look like elvis' hairdo they are so bad. I do not feel like shipping them a second third time to be retumbled or re-tanned. Any suggestion on what I can do at home to get the grease out? I am afraid there is too much for dish soap to work.
thanks, Juli

Our we talking grease or oil?

Juli,

If they are overly oiled, not some type of heavy grease, I would run them in a tumbler with some clean hardwood sawdust and one of the tumbling mix degreasers. Clean out the sawdust and retumble them again if your skins are still oily. If you have some type of grease in your skins you may have to go with something like Rittels super solvent and some slightly warm water, rinse, towel dry and then tumble. That is of course assuming that your tannery used a tanning agent that is not highly susceptible to washing out.

To be perfectly honest it sounds like you need a new tannery! We specialize in furbearers. Send me an email with your regular mailing address and we will get a flyer out to you. I guarantee you won't see skins like the above coming from us.
