waiting for tanned hides

Submitted by kevin on 05/01/2003. ( ) 167.23.240.24

Today is the 90th day since I dropped off my hides at a respected tannery. I still have not received a letter or anything stating they are ready. I called and they said they will mail out a invoice and the hides will be ready 10 days after the date on the invoice. If I was to receive the letter today, this would make it 100 days from the time I dropped them off until I received them. I have sent 4 batches of hides. The first 3 I got back within 60 days. This last batch is really making me wonder if I will ever send anymore to them. I sent a total of 35 deer capes, 3 caribou, and various other animals. I know I am not a huge customer to them, but here I sit waiting for capes so I can finish my work. How long do you guys and gals normally wait? This seems way to long.

Kevin , this is the normal time you have to wait . Remember , these tanneries get most of their business during the winter so the earlier you ship to them the faster they ship back . My tannery takes 6 months on some skins . In the mean time , go fishing . Rick

You must be talking about the Wildlife Gallery as I am going through the same thing. They advertize 60 days in Breakthrough but I am waiting on items well over 120

You don't even want to go there

I am having a problem too. Now, don't get me wrong, maybe it is impatience on my behalf, but my tannery contacted me 2 weeks ago stating my capes were finished. I sent payment immediately and left a message to call me. They never did. I called again and left word to call me as to when they planned on sending them....They never called. I have since ordered a bunch of goodies to mount this deer....including a flesher. I figured I would be waiting for the supplies to mount the cape....Nope. Other way around. I am waiting for the cape to mount on the supplies I have received days ago.

Thanks to the flesher...I am now going to do my own....

not so bad but.....

Yes it is the tannery you mentioned Jimmy. I guess the thing that gets me is when you go there the guys in the back have all gone home because all they do is so many a day. When there done with that amount, they go home. In the mean time here we sit waiting extra time for our capes. Good thing I don't do this full time, our my kids would be eating ramean noodles four nights a week until I got the rest of my capes. LOL
