I tan with EZ100 . The other day I threw in a badger with a couple capes in the pickle . The field care on the badger was not good . I knew it was a questionable skin when I threw it in with the other capes but I figured Id see what happened . As a result , my pickle has this rancid smell and a foggy grey consistancy . Its nasty man . Will this have any bad effects on the good deer capes I have in there? I will probably find out soon enough but I thought Id throw it out there.

You are not clear, did you put it in the pickle?
Or did you put it in the tan?
I would have mixed a seperate batch for the badger.
Check you capes and tell us.
None on this forum can tell you, wiether the capes will be damaged or not. This is something you must see to know. You are learned the hard way but many of us have.
Check the skins, I would get the badger out, you did not mentioned salting the badger either.
Check your steps in pickling and tanning. Check the pH of the pickle less than 3.0.
Pull the capes out and check them. Thats all you can do.
The capes were salted . I had the badger salted for a day then mixed with my pickle . My pH is currently 1.2 . I was kinda thinkin that Im not the only guy to have this kind of a situation . At least thats what Im hoping ! Thanks for the input so far John . .
Coot, didn't you wash the skins before placing them in the pickle?
Coot;
If it's as nasty as you say. Make up a new pickle and put the skins in a new bath, that you know is correct. Don't mess around with a pickle your not sure of. Better be safe than sorry.
