For years I have done my inshop tanning with the liquid tans and had good results. I do find the salting down , then rehydrating , then pickling down a long time consuming system. I read Larry Blomquist's article in the Fall 2002 issue of Breakthrough, he really rated the Krowtann 2000 very high . What I like about it is forget the salt , forget the rehydration process, and also the pickle . Besides time that can add up to a few bucks , I am not condeming the liquid tans , but when a new product comes along it can really make a difference . My question is has anyone had any major problems with Krowtann 2000 ?

Have not had any problems with the Krowtann. In fact, last week we had a cape that was in terrible shape. The hunter did not find the deer until the next day and the cape was pretty rank. As I thawed it out I did use the new Stop Rot on it and then proceeded to bust it out and put into the Krowtann. I thought this would put the combination to a good test and it came out with absolutely no slippage. Couldn't tell you if it was the combination or not but the hair was somewhat loose when I started to work on it. I figured it could be a toss-up but I don't think this cape could have been saved without something more than dry salting. I don't miss the double salting and rehydration at all, even on the good hides.
I also was skeptical, used it on small mammals with great results, just did a deer cape that was given to me, it was salted and frozen for 5 yrs, so i didnt figure is was a big risk, though id probably loose it, so i thawed it and washed out all the salt real good and at that point the hair was real loose and touchy, put it in the tann for 4 days took it out followed the directions as per/inst.washed it real good in tide, hair was locked in real tight didnt hardly loose anything when i final fleshed it tanned thru and has great stretch, put it back in the freeze, probably be there for another 5 yrs. cut an excess piece off the hide for abusive testing, i think in the near future it will the tan of choice for anyone doing in house tanning, i know its fast becomming mine! good luck
