preparing a rattlesnake's skin

Submitted by vinzo on 05/27/2003. ( ) 138.23.91.219

Hi everybody
I just found a dead rattlesnake and I'd like to keep its skin...
I skinned it and it's now in water with soap (I heard this was usefull to remove fat...)
I don't wanna tan it but only make it flat, dry and clean... What should I do? I have heard I could use a solution of glycerin and ethanol? Should I also put in the sun?
Thanks in advance

You can tan it with our reptile product. Just soak skin in salt and water for 3 hours then scrape it down well rinse and lay out flat and apply the reptile tan to the flesh side. Prior to some will take the scales off and then tan. The scales can dry out and peel back. If you would like more instructions feel free to email me at the above address.

Since you DO NOT want to tan it, you could just use borax to afix the skin and then do with it as you please. You will have to tack down the skin during the drying proces to stop the skin from distorting and curling. You can also use the 50% glycerin and 50% denatured alcohol method also. You tack it down, and brush it on the flesh side once a day for about 4 days and you are set to go. But if you decide to tan it, Bruce Rittels stuff in the best1
