PI**ED OFF AT THE WILDLIFE GALLERY!

Submitted by Rob on 07/30/2003. ( hunt1@alltel.net ) 166.102.247.76

I have used this tannery only twice, and have received the runaround both times. They have done a decent job on my hides, but they can never get them done when they say they will be done. The first time I called, I was given a finish date of June 28-30. The second time, I was given a finish date of July 10. When I call to find out what is taking them soooo long, I get a different story every time depending on who I talk to. I FINALLY get an invoice that they are ready, I send payment ( next day guaranteed, for the mere price of $13.65! ), and this was 8 days ago. I call them today to find out what is going on, and I get " Uh, let me go get your file, Uh, they were shipped yesterday ". Maybe they were, or maybe I'm still getting the runaround, but won't find out until the day that I should have received them has come and gone. All I know is that I will not send anything else to this tannery! I would recomend that everyone else think twice if you are planning on using them as well. Also, in my latest issue of Breakthrough, I see an ad for " The Wildlife Gallery" , which includes a webite address. I type in the website address and guess what? , It's a " Dead Link " !
Go Figure!

simple solution

Stop calling them, then! They are a reputable group, have the best tan, and cannot give folks exact completion dates. We all know this. If you are new to this, relax, take a deep breath, and understand that this is how it is. If you are a veteran taxidedrmist, well, take that deep breath anyway. Seems foolish to stop using the best tan out there just to make a point. They dont lose...you would.

and then

If you had read the info provided by them you would have saved yourself the cash for sending your payment so quickly.Invoice is sent when hides START into the tanning process and are usually shipped within 10 days of invoice date. And yes, they have us backed up this year too on hides, but evidently word got out last year about the job they did. We all get backed up, and I'm sure they were overwhelmed.I've made a couple calls too about time but they still do a good job.If I get busy this fall and get them in sooner I bet I'll have them back when I want them.

Fur Dressing Problems

I work for a different fur dressing co. so I will have to disagree with Bills statement about the best tan. I understand the taxidermists being agrivated about turnaround time. They make their living by getting mounts out the door. Sounds to me like an isolated incident though, judging by other Taxidermists remarks. We are backed up where I work, and next season will soon be here. All fur dressers know the importance of turn around time. If you are dealing with a fur dresser with a long turnaround, there are alot of other Taxidermists that are happy with their product. I dont know about the other companys, but we are still working 50 plus hours per week.

Theres the inside word right there. The best advice a guy can give is to have folks send capes as they dry, rather then send them all at once late. Send some sheep, caribou or early bears and elk as soon as they dry, archery deer in another batch or two, followed by regular and late season deer, etc. This way you have some flow coming back, too. Tanneries will work with you, its only logical!

I will be soon

I had the 2nd bear, I harvested tanned by Wild. Gall.. What a mess! I'm glad, I'm excellant at repairing hides, but WOW I got my work cut out for me. I think a rookie, ran the wheel. All cut up! You pay that kind of money for a mount that you want to cherish, and display it and they give you something holy enough for Church.

Thanks for input

Thanks for the input. This is only the second time that I have sent hides out to be tanned.I used to Liqua - Tan. You are probably right, I need to be more patient, as they are probably swamped with work as well.

Who skinned J Rhed's bear? Ive seen enough cut up bears to know enough not to blame the tannery. Sorry guys, I just dont see that kind of stuff from them. Rob, best of luck with your future tanning. Us guys do honestly answer to help, ya know!

too bad about the bear

being holy. It's easy to tell if it was the guy who skinned itor the guy running the flesher based on the type of compromise and marks left by the tool; try Interstate next time, but they are busy too.
