salimeter reading

I just bought a McKenzie salimeter and it's only reading 36% in my safetee acid mixture which contains 8 gallons of water, 8 lbs of salt (morton mixing salt from the feed store) and 12 tablespoons of acid (or 36 teaspoons). The salt seems to be pretty well-disolved. I know that most of you folks like to have a 40% reading...

Should I trust the salimeter reading and add more salt? Or should I trust my scale and leave it alone. This is also the first time I've used this brand of salt and I'm getting a fairly higher acid content reading from my hydrometer (a 10, not an 11 as I'm used to). I hope this batch of acid is okay... what do you guys think?

Kristi, I would add a little more salt just to be on the safe side.Is this brand of salt 100%? i buy morton salt which is 100% and my salimeter reading is always 40%or higher.
