Mystery Salt

After reading tons of archives about buying cheaper salt and avoiding the weird looks at the grocery store, I bought a 50 pound bag of Morton salt at the feed store. I intend to use this for dry salting, and even pickling and tanning if that's okay. The problem is, there's no ingredients list on the bag. It just says, Morton Mixing Salt...brown bag with blue lettering. It appears white and fine, but kinda clumpy. Is it safe? I'm worried that it may contain other minerals. I have no warm and fuzzy feelings about using this.

I buy what is called meat salt from the feed store.It comes in 50 lbs.
It is used for curing hams, or mixing with other minerals.
They should be able to tell you what is in it from the place of purchase.

Should be fine...

I buy Mortons all purpose salt. Sounds like the same thing, just break up the bigger pieces as you use it. All the bags I buy are the same way. Thats all it is, just salt. I use it for all taxidermy purposes.

I get the same thing

It is called mixing salt because it is "mixed" with the grain fed to cattle. It works fine, I have used it for years.

Kristi;
If there's nothing on the bag, then it's pure 100% salt. If it had something added to it then it would have had an ingredient list on the bag. SO your safe to use it as you wish.

...yellow prussiate of soda additive keeps it from clumping. (You know, when it rains it pours.)
