lacquer over lizard skin

I have a pool cue with a lizard skin handle and the color of the handle seems to fade, So i experimented and sprayed lacquer Finish over the handle and whala the color of the hide was even and it was nice and shiny to boot... my questions is, would there be a long term effect on the leather... such as cracking, peeling etc..thanks

Unless the handle is cushioned under the skin where it would then be soft, the thin layer of laquer would crack. The reason the skin evened out is because you glossed it. You would have had the same results by applying a good leather treatment like you would good snake skin boots. If the skin was wrapped around the handle tight, should should be fine, although it will not take any banging on the table edge or floor as the laquer will fracture like any plastic

The skin is wrapped tightly on a hardwood base....so cracking s left to a minimum...unless I bang the cue...

thank for the advise
