a Belt from a "Dog bone"

I want to teach my Grand son how to make a trouser "link-belt".
I want to use an unrolled leather "Dog Bone"
sold in pet stores($1.00).
I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried this
and can give me some tips.

We have unrolled the leather,
soaked it in hot water to make it pliable,
and pinned it to a stretcher board to dry.

It's rawhide and won't work. Look up Tandy leather on the web and order a premade kit.

Don't know about belts- but I have used unrolled dog bones for rawhide rattle heads, feather fan handles (for powwow dance fans), and backing for porky quilled medicine wheels. Once I started making my own rawhide, however, I have no need for dog bones. 'Cept for the dog, of course. :)

The rawhide must be supple enough to be folded in half.
