I'm new at this and while fleshing a beaver i cut a couple holes through the skin to the pelt side, now i was wondering what to do, let then be and sew them when the tanning was done or sew them now, same question for the legs, should i sew the leg holes now or later?
Thanks guys.

I don't do any of my own tanning so they have to be done after I get them back. It works.

tack beaver pelts out

tack your beaver out..put on a board get some small nails and tack beaver out in a circle.O.k. It's all stretched out now now flesh it down manually by hand with a pull type scraper flesher..You might have to make your own hand held flesher/scraper?Now you got all the flesh off
sew up the cut holes while it is tacked out on the board o.k. let dry
after it has dried a few days there is some kind of a white creamy liquid you can paint on them a few times. After a few weeks it should be dry you can putll up the nails and you got a round beaver pelt. This also can be tumbled in saw dust to soften things up..It can be tanned later

why not flesh it

rub it down with sodium sulfate, roll it up flesh side in and place it in a double plastic bag n set in refridge till next day.wash it in cool water and dawns antibacterial soap. towel dry or tumble dry and dry preserv or spray tan and then mount.
