If i have an old animal skin that is a little dry and stiff how do i make it soft and supple again.

Old skins are like old people: there ain't no going back. IF the tan was a good one and neutralized properly, it will last a long time. As it dries, however, the oils need to be replaced. Easiest to find is a good lanolin based hand lotion. Rub it into the flesh side. Continue to rub in until it puddles. Wipe off excess and then let dry a few days before displaying.
If the tan was not done correctly, the hide could be brittle and crack on you. The hair is already brittle and will likely break off as well. It's OLD, remember.
Hi, I have an old skin bag (maybe alligator or snake, not sure) and the scales are getting dry and curling - is there anything i can do to recondition it and subsequently maintain it?
Hope you can help.
