How do you get the eye to form to the glass eye nice and tight so that it does not take any or little scalpall once the eye has dried. I have fleshed the eye down to almost nothing and I still have a problem with this. I do use a dry preservative.
Thank YOu

Are you removing the fat pockets at the end of each lash? The skin must be very very thin! You must use a good low shrink clay such as Critter Clay (I use Apoxie Sculpt) you need to go back and baby the eyes everyday until you can nolonger move the clay.
I set eyes in Apoxie Sculpt, then use Epo-Grip two part HIDE ADHESIVE. I normally have less than 1/32 shrinkage around the eyes, sometimes even less. Just get the shape right while the eApoxie Sculpt and E-G is soft then the next morning its prety much a done deal. Except the ear butts. Use bondo and sawdust to set the earliners on the head, then cut and glue as needed.
Another tip. I have gotten from Ben Mears. is to try some skin so soft around the eyes, and nose inside and out. this helps very well with shrinkage and color loss. I personally have ben useing critter clayy to set the eye to form and theni use an eye setter. to shape the eyelid around it. and maintain the shape along with some hide paste as jonh had mentioned. For a beginner the little eye seter works very well. and i would also mention the gentlemen that introduced me to the eye setter has only 28 years experiance in the field and still uses the eye setter. helps alot i do hafe to admit. best of luck Ray
And it took me 30 years to recognize it. If you don't remove those fat cells at the eyelash bases, you'll NEVER get an eye to lay flat regardless of what method you use.
