I just recently purchased a salinometer from Rhineharts, I took it out of the cardboard package it was in and looked it over carefully.I see a glass tube with a paper scale that reads 0-100, and some red stuff in the bottom.
So how does this meter actually work? There were no instrution provided so I am kinna puzzled here.

The amount of the stem that sticks out of the water corresponds to the percentage of salt saturation (100% is a saturated solution). For a pickling solution it usually reads about 80%.
i believe it should read 40 for a pickling solution.
I was confused with something else.
