tumble liqua-tan?

I'm using Liqua-Tan with Knoblochs acid bath. I was planning on tumbling the hides in Hardwood Sawdust from Research Mannikins then freezing untill I ready to mount.

My questions are; can i tumble then freeze a dryed cape or is there a better way to freeze it, and what is the easiest way to get all the sawdust out of the cape for when I do actually tumble it either before or after freezing. Thanks

freeze the cape after the tan has penetrated. Then thaw it out, and tumble it in the sawdust. There may be a better way, but this is how I like to do it. Good luck.

joe,
yes you can freeze after liqua-tan. let the oil soak in for several hours first though. i used to let the liqua-tan soak in over night then add a cup of mineral spirits to the saw dust and tumble for 5 to ten minutes to get the oil from the hair. then tumble in clean dry saw dust for 20 minutes, mount it or freeze it. this method has always worked fine for me.
good luck!

That's what I was looking for

I wanted to get the liqua-tan off the fur before freezing.

If I let the cape sit over night then tumble and freeze, would 12-18 hours be long enough for the tan to set in or should it stay on the skin longer?

Let it sit for the 18 hours, I rather 24 but 18 is plenty.

Thanks Frank...
