Rooster Capes for fly tying-info on prep and preservation

I would appreciate some step x step instructs on preparing and preserving Rooster capes and saddles for future fly tying. Also- ideas on dying feathers etc.Advice appreciated.

I would just skin the area out. Then clean off the extra meat or fat on the skin, then rub some borax on the skin and then stretch the skin and pin it stretched out until it dries. I do not think I would wash the feathers or skin with anything because any natural oils on the feathers may help protect them and keep your flys floating.
