I acquired a 4-1/2' and 3' Rattlesnake while bird hunting last weekend in South Dak. I skinned out the meat and now have the skins hanging over some plywood in my garage. I would like to preserve thes hides. Is it to late to start tanning prodcess? It's been about 5 days. I need help in describing the process using the glycerin and alcohol etc
Thanks

I have done quite a few rattlesnake hides but I have never left one, the tan that I like to use is snake tan by Van Dykes. if you rehidrate your skins in salt water then flesh them really good,I just use an old butter knife, you can put them in the freezer until you are ready to tan them, it is really pretty easy.just remember that when you tan them make sure that you staple them to a board stretched out, that way they won't shrink while you are tanning. Good luck.
