I noticed that you gave great praise to McKenzies new tan. I was wondering if it is compatible with the Knobloch's products, and what kind of pickle do you use? I ususally use citric acid and Knobloch's
other chemicals with it. There isn't much information on the McKenzie site yet.

It seems to be very well received by many right now. I use safety acid from Bruce Rittel, but it suggests that all pickles seem to do the trick, formic, citric, safety acid. Im not familiar with the others as Ive had good results with what Ive listed. I would guess Bascal too, I always liked that product as well. I dont want to go in here and directly compare this tan to any other names, as my words are so often twisted in these forums to say what I didnt. The other products have their place, Im just really happy with the McKenzie tan. I guess if your product and method isnt broken, no need to fix it. Did you ever get that shaver you were thinking of buying?
myself. I opted for the Quebec V mainly due to SWMBO taking care of the finances, so I was lucky to get the thing at all! I practiced on it for fleshing. Didn't do too bad, but one thing is for sure...make sure the whole hide is thawed! I only really had trouble with it when I got close to a place on the hide that I couldn't maneuver. Once I readjusted the guards a couple times and practiced tuning the blade I thought it worked pretty good. However, I think I'm be mainly using it for thinning hides. How do you all clean down the shaft where the pulley & belt are? I almost thought about breaking out my carboy brush and using that....but I like making beer too much to dirty that up right now ! ;-O
