A friend of mine killed a deer about a week ago. I saw the hide laying out in a crumpled pile. It has been cold here, but above freezing. Is it still possible to tan it? Flies have not tried to blow it.

yeah why not,it's worth the try. if people can tan capes that are slipping why not do this one. but i recommend you to use stop-rot when your going to turn the lips,ears,eyes,ears and when your going to do your fleshing! g-luck!
Your nose will tell you if it's good.
