Salt and Dehairing for Leather

Hey guys, have a question. I have searched through the archives, of course, but haven't found an answer.

I have two whitetail hides that I have fleshed (lotta skinning holes, but not from my fleshing, oh noooooo) and are bound for dehairing, deliming and into the pickle for leather. I have salted them out, and my question is: is it really necessary for me to shake off the first salting and resalt and dry rock hard, since I am going to dehair them anyway? Or, can I go home tonight, shake off that salt and put 'em right into the lime solution?

I appreciate any suggestions or comments!

Michael

In fact I seldom do it for hides that I WANT the hair on. Salt works and a double salting is useless in my estimation. You're certainly OK since you are removing the hair anyway.

Thanks George!
