This is my first Whitetail head mount. Before sending the hide to the tannery I think I did a pretty good job splitting the lips, lids and nose. The guy from the tannery said I did pretty good anyway. It is a wet tan and the tannery people said that they typically flesh the hide. So what kind of prep is required to get it ready for mounting. Most of the reference materials has to do with tanning hides on your own and requires fleshing. I haven't been able to find much on what to do once it comes back from a commercial tannery.
Thanks much!

put it on the form
Get a video or Breakthrough manual, sounds like your lost as lasts years easter egg. Video will point you in the direction you need to go. Good luck.
you might need to shave it some more, measure it, buy the right form and supplies, then start to mount it (you'll need good reference especially for the eyes, ear butts and nose.
Start with buying the Breakthrough Whitetail manual, and while your waiting for that to be delivered read through these archives.
Thanks. I already have all of the supplies, videos, manuals, etc. I guess my question more specifically should have been, what type of solution do I use to rehydrate the cape from a commercial wet tan and also what parts of the cape still need to be thinned or shaved? All of the information in the videos and manuals cover a hide that is tanned in the shop. They typically pull the cape out halfway through the tanning process.
The deer was measured appropriately in the field so I'm confident that the form is the right size. I'm not completely lost, just a little nervous about goofin' up on my first attempt.
