Well this is kinda weird..I have a fully tanned hide off a deer. It is nice white leather and broken. Heres the deal I hung it out in the garage the other day, the next morning I go into garage and the hide is damp. On the lowest part of the hide you could see a water line running across the hide about 6 inches from the bottom. Needless to say I moved hide outside into the sun to dry it out again. I also used this opertunity to stretch it some more. Will tanned mounts rehydrate like this? I live on the Texas gulf coast so our humidity is always high what gives? I think if I would of squeezed the lower part of the hide I might of been able to get some water out..That is wet!

Would you hang a tanned hide outside? Your only asking for those problems. If you wanted a hide to be on the outside then you should have had it chromed tanned to protect it from the weather and such. If you get a heavy dew, do to your humidity of course it will attach itself to anything that's out side in the weather. If you want to keep you hide fresh, take it inside and hang it there from the eliments.
I do all my mounts outside in the garage!... I have DP mounts out there with no problems...If I tan a cape and mount it and leave it in the garage the sucker is going to mold up on me maybe? I just did not expect the hide to rehydrate that much in one night.
