salt drying question

i do my salting in a refridgerator. my question is can i salt in a room that is between 65 and 70 degrees. i usually turn lips nose and eyes, salt, roll up, put in refrig for 24 hrs. then do it again the next day. doest this process have to be done in the cold of an area.

You can salt the hide on a slated rack, this will allow the air to circulate under the hide as well as on the salt on top. You may wish to also put a fan on the rack to speed drying.

You do not need to do this in a cool area. Room temperatures will work nicely. They will dry faster at the warmer temps.

For cheap drying racks you can pick up some used pallets


what about

say a bobcat hide. i used a dorsal incision. if i lay it out, flesh side up, which is the belly, how do i get salt on the underside of the head and neck if its on a rack where the salt can fall through. get my drift.

Jon, Its not no real science, just lay the skin on the floor or put it in a plastic tote and salt the P out of it on all sides the salt should stick on its own. Then just lay it out on an incline to drip. The next day shake off and salt again let dry. That simple. The fridge will only slow this process down. good luck Jack F
