KEMAL 4

Submitted by BOWGULL on 11/13/2003. ( BOWGULL@YAHOO.COM ) 161.114.1.181

I was reading my kemal 4 bottle and it says it degreases. Does this mean if I put it in the pickle I wont have to degrease the hide? Im talking about boar hide?

On another note. I just tanned a deer hide using ez100. I was so happy with the results I ordered a boatload more. Hell the hide even smells like a new leather jacket! and is so white the sun reflects off of it. Heres the deal. Tanning went so well im going to do a muley cape with the McKenzie tan and mount it just to see if my results are better then with DP. Im a dp jockey currently. I might switch sides on this issue LOL. Heres the deal, I have a small elk in the freezer Im going to tan this with the ez100 I do not want to refreeze because I need the space in my freezer. After it is tanned is there a certain way I should hang it to dry it out? It was a small one with no horns so I believe there are no cuts on the hide, case skinned. I didn't get a chance to look at it before it was placed in my freezer I just want to store the hide because im not sure if im goin to mount or sell.

Make sure you oiled it and just hang it up. Now because it's more or less a cased neck I would during the drying process pull it side ways. This will only aid in keeping the neck closer to your measurements. The reason behind this is, if it's hanging and pulling down it will stretch it lenght wide and that causes folks to thing the neck really shrunk.

ps, Kemal 4 does not really degrease in the pickle, do that process after the three day pickle. There are other products out there that you can add to help the process in your pickle but to this day I haven't found the need for them. I just pickle, degrease and then repickle.

Kemel 4

About Kemel 4, how did it work for you, Bowgull? According to the bottle you have to add a quart of Coleman fuel to the Kemel in order to degrease, and leave it in for "several" hours. My Lutan instructions say to degrease for only 20 minutes. So I was tanning a yote and went with the Kemel instructions, and it shrunk up and shriveled like crazy. I am not blaming the Kemel per se, BUT I don't know what I did different other than use the Kemel.

I am going to use up my Lutan and try that ez100 myself. I have heard nothing but good about it.

Mike

thanks

I haven't used the kemal 4 yet. It said on the bottle To add to all the solutions and it will degrease..Maybe I need to reread the bottle. Anyway I sure do like the ez100. Thanks for the info about the elk that makes total sense.
