Dear new tanner:
I have braintanned plenty of hides and this is not a job for a new tanner start out small with young deer and when they are perfected go to a little bigger hide. Its all physical when braintanning, a cow hide would be a major job.Hope this information helps.
sincerely
Tom

new tanner,
I don't think you'll find many tanners who would tackle a cow hide. Personally, I've braintanned a lot of deer, some elk and moose, but to me, cow hide is only good for making rawhide out of. It just does not stretch. You might check out the bark tanning section on braintan.com if you want to do a tradional tan on it.
