On 11/14/03 I submitted a column telling how my deer fell to his death and sat in 85 degree weather for hours. When I got to him he was bloated and had maggot eggs in parts of his hair. Well, his cape survived! When I defrosted it, I applied Stop Rot all over and salted and let hang. Then I finished fleshing him and re-salted and let dry. I pickled 24 hours, adding some Tannit VGS to the pickle and then tanned in Lutan FN 48 hours. I've had capes that had been through less trauma and have turned out weaker after a tan. I was not very optamistic about this one. This is the first time I used that Stop Rot stuff. I think I'm sold!

Glad it turned out for you. Yes that Stop Rot is some powerful stuff and saved several of the capes I had which were iffy.
as a matter of curiousity, where is it that you live where a deer would manage to do that? just wondering
