potassium chloride

Does anyone have any experience using potassium chloride as a substitute for sodium chloride in their pickles? If so, were the results similar? And where would a person be able to buy some in bulk? Thanks for any feedback.

Table salt is relatively inert, but when you start with the potassium mixing it with acid, unless you really KNOW what you're doing, you'd be wise to stick to the safe and proven methods.

If it works leave it alone, You will have better results.
The suppliers have spent alot of money in testing different types of chemicalls
for different types of uses and have presented for sale the best one for that particular job.
I know from experience that if you tamper with, substitute or make do with, you are putting your work in jepardy.
I am not saying that taxidermy is an exact science just that some chemicals may do or let you get buy with fair results.

The reason I am asking is not to question the proven results of salt, it is because I have read that KCl2 was safer to use for disposal in septic systems than salt with the same results. I wanted to see if anyone has had any experience using it.

KCl is considered a Salt substitute!

Yes - KCl is a Salt substitute. The US Dept. of Ag. has done a lot of work with it to test it for future use. The biggest problem is its cost. Salt is so much cheaper!

Please e-mail me and I will send you a copy of an article I wrote for Breakthrough on using KCl. Be aware however - that you should not dump any chemicals into a home septic system. They will kill off your bacteria which break down the wastes - and render it useless.
