I have a sheep skin that Im going to tan for a friend as a rug. Can it be tanned the same way that you tan a deer skin?

You would probably want to send it to a professional tannery. You have a better chance for the skin to turn out better. Don't take the chance and mess up a good sheep skin, especially for your friend.
Because if you mess up the skin your self, you may loose a good friend.
