I have several capes and a fox salted and hanging to dry but I cannot get them to dry. I salted them initially and rolled them up to drain. I then brushed off the salt, resalted them amd hung them up to dry. They have been hanging in my shop for more than a week and will not dry out. It is plenty cold in the shop as I live in North Idaho and the shop is not heated.
Any suggestions?

JT,
You may want to put a fan blowing on the hides to help create better air-flow. Hides in 'cold' weather tend to take longer to dry out because of the moisture in the air, thus, 'cool' temperatures are better. Place a fan blowing on them and it should help speed up your process.

when you salt capes and hides. Rolling them up can trap moisture and not let them drain properly. Lay it out flat and pile on the salt. After the second salting my capes are 3/4s dried out allready. Try a fan as Dave suggested or you may need some heat in your shop, if its below freezing your capes won't drain or dry properly, just freeze.
I had this same problem but it was about 40degrees and 90% humidity. A dehumidifier and a fan should do the trick...make sure to keep fresh salt on it though, change every day or so till dry.
I moved them into the basement of my house which is radiant heated and they dried out practically overnight.
Thanks for the advice.
