I am using krowtann for the second year only this year I am using it on my deer mounts.
First.. I like the tan, but it seems on long haired capes, you have to remove the hide from the tan, shave the area behide the ears (thick area) and then return it to the tan for another half day. I did this because when I shaved this area, the hide was not as white as the rest of the thinned skinned ares of the cape, but the second soak took care of this after shaving the cape.
Second..Yes you can use your wife's dryer to tumble the capes, but remenber to MAKE SURE it is set on AIR FUFF or you may lose the cape!Don't forget to put some of her good bath towels in with the cape to help with absorbing the moisture, But I use old one's from the garage, my wife caught on!lol I tried to tell her that I was just trying to help out with the dirty clothes, did'nt work.
Third..I guess I have not got any thing bad to say about krowtann 2000 it's just good stuff. Bob
To answer your question - No! Rehydrating, Pickling and Tanning should be done above 55 degrees Fahrenhiet! If not, the Salt will fall out of solution and the whole process slows down. So - while you think its pickled or tanned it may not be! My recommendation - dont do it in such low temps!
As for the other tan that Robert Cain mentioned - I'm sure it also isnt recommended for such low temps - although to be sure - I'd check with the manufacturer. Since its an Alum tan I doubt he would recommend it.
Happy New Year!
