Bascal S Question (Bruce?)

Greetings from Alaska
I am doing some sample tans with the bascal S as Bruce outlined in
http://www.taxidermyweb.com/review-BascalS.htm

My question is can I also add the acid bate to the solution as normal.
If so would you add it to the bascal pickle befor you add the acid for the 6-14 hours or after you add the saftee acid?
Also how important is the prepickle with the only the bascal. This would eliminate adding skins to an existing acid bascal pickle or reusing the pickle.
Appreciate you input

I'm not sure it's a good idea!

Bascal S appears to be good in producing softer skins. In the past - When I questioned the BASF Lab techs concerning on how it did this - they said it "degrades the protein in the skins". How it did this chemically however, they couldn't tell me.

Consequently I hesitate to tell you that using Bascal S and Acid Bate in your pickling solution is a compatible situation - chemically speaking! One may interact with the other. I personally have not experimented with it using both.

It's safe to assume that pre-pickling with only Bascal S simply is to allow for a longer exposure to it before its pickled. Thus more softness can be expected later.

You have some very good questions - but unfortunately I am limited by my lack of experience using them together.

Hey Thanks Bruce.
I will let you know how it works because I added the acid bate to the bascal S. I will try one without it next and compare.
Having fun with it.

worked fine
