Ok, I just got a steer hide from this guy, and he wants me to tan it. I put it in the freezer along with the caped out head. So heres the questions, first, there is a fair ammount of blood on the fur side in places, will that stain? and if so what needs to be done to remedy the problem. Next, how much salt and time will it take to dry it out? Its cool here, but I will leave it in our garage with fans on it so it should not be a problem.
The plan: After Christmas I will thaw out it out, rough flesh it, salt it and send it off to get tanned. If that doesnt sound quite right to anyone, let me know.
