Hi All,
I am working on learning to tan. I have finished one piece so far a fawn hide that turned out pretty good. At least its soft and the hairs not falling out! Anyway, my question is I dont have heat on in the shop unless I am there (old house, propane gas) so the temp drops in there pretty good (live in Georgia). I noticed today that I have alot on salt on the bottom of my buckets just wanted to know is this going to gave me problems with a hide sometime. Right now I have three deer hides in EZ100 tanning and the were pickled using WASCO pickling crystals and seem to come out ok today. I shaved them down thin and like I said they are tanning now. I have been keeping the ph checked and have had no problems so far. So I guess what I am asking is this cold water going to come back and bite my somewhere down the line. So far I havent worked on anyones hides but my own but as of today I have taken in two deer hides from two paying fellows.
I want to thank all of you in advance for your help.
Kim

Salt precipitates out of solution and creates problems at temps below 55 degrees. Post on 12-28-03.
That's why you are seeing more Salt on the bottom. It's falling out due to the cold temperatures!
