If you mean "breaking" the skin!

If you mean "breaking" the skin - this is done after the skin has been tanned - oiled and almost dried completely! It can also be called softening or staking the skin. It all involves stretching the fibers apart to promote having a soft, limp skin! If you're lucky enough to have a Drum 4X6 or bigger - you can do this in the Drum - otherwise you have to break or work it by hand!
