Hey john this is chuck again, just did my fourth deer head and had mixed results with it, i use the auto tanner and had a question for you about it, i ordered some new crystals and some oil from Van Dykes well i got a gallon of oil and a 50 lb bag of tanning crystals, the crystals were powdered, is that ok? and the oil is (protal) is that a good oil? just thought i would ask you, cause rotrammel did not get back ahold of me, must be too busy. also, how do you dress up a bald spot where the hair fell out? it is behind the left ear and about the size of a nickel? well thanks for any help john c sure appreciate it.
goodnight. Chuck.

I like Steve Rotrammels orignal formula, but the VanDyke podwer could be just as good.

I nolonger add the oil to the tanner, I have had nothing but sticky messes doing that. I oil after I take the cape out and just before I mount it.

Also oil the cape and let it sit for 6-8 hours in a frg before freezing.

The Protal seems to be a good tanning oil from what I have been told.

As for the slip spot just trim it out cutting a football shape, Even a short haired deer can cover that spot.

I generally trim several spots out of every deer I mount.
