60%salt in pickle

I checked the archives but did not find the answer. I just bought a salimoter. I mixed my pickle 1#salt to 1 gallon of water and used safetee acid. My ph is correct. When i checked my salt the salimoter read 60%. is this too much and should i dilute with water and add acid to bring ph back into range. Thanks, mark

Mark...That's sounds alittle high to me. I usually run mine around 35 to 40 percent.
Happy tanning

35 to 40 percent is the correct amount. 60 percent doesn't hurt anything,
you are only using more salt than needed.

One pound/gal is about the right amount of salt. If you mixed the salt in cold well water, try another reading when the water warms up.
