Does it matter if I use neatsfoot oil or does it have to be sulfated neatsfoot oil?

I heard somewhere that sulfated neatsfoot is penetrating and regular neatsfoot is not, otherwise it would soak thru your shoes, therefore you need to use sulfated. Not sure if this is true or not, so i would search the archives. Good luck
