I was wondering what the best tan for garments such as gloves and
clothing would be?
Thanks.

Chrome is your very best choice. It is able to withstand the high temperatures required to dye or stain it. It is a true tan and very prespiration resistant.
I second that!
Just a few tips and cautions about Chrome though.
They will rip. The ripping is a linear, characteristic rip. Straight lines. It's because the Chrome lines up the fibers a certain way. It is easy to sew back up and not indiciative of dry rot. Usually under-oiling and then pulling on the skin, like putting it in to your pattern for sewing, is what causes this. Do not worry. Once the garment is finished the rips are extremely uncommon.
The true Chrome tans are also TOUGH to stretch out. They are easy when wet but when dry, they hold their shape. This keeps your coat or gloves from getting that sagging butt/worn fingers look which is so common with all these "stretchy" tans.
Stretch is over-rated, you only need it to stretch one time and that's when you're putting it in to the pattern. After that it's all breaking that makes for softness. Chrome is the BEST.
Chrome is a pollutant, so if you plan on tanning with it, keep the kitty litter disposal system handy for dry landfilling the waste. This will be very heavy! You can't just dump it in the yard like the other tans.
Talk to Bruce about chrome tans, he's the expert.
my advise. forget the poison problems with chrome. use bruce 's eze 100 i believe it is a systhetic chrome. with a limited life ..just enough to get the job done. then it breaks down to an inert material.
right bruce?
