I recently acquired a home tanned bison hide. The hide is very stiff and leathery, and does not lay flat. Is there anything I can do to soften it up?

Get ready for a very tough job. Some hides can be rehydrated then apply a softening oil, then break the hide while drying over an edge of an old disc blade or something with sharp edge. alot of work eh! Good Luck
