Greasy Fur

I finished chrome tanning a red fox and the fur around the back and tail area feels greasy. I washed and rinsed the hide before and after putting it in the tanning solution. What can I do to take away the greasy feel?

Dry Clean it!

Take a plastic garbage bag - put in some sawdust - put in some Odorless Mineral Spirits (enough to dampen it)- then put in the skin and tie it off! Then bounce it around for 5-10 minutes - take it out and blow it off! It should be fine.

PS - Odorless Mineral Spirits can be found in Hardware stores as Paint Brush Cleaner - just check what it contains - it should list it as OMS!

hi. albert..
mineral spirits may dry it too much!. try using a little naptha and warm water. im sure you'll like that formula better!
