Oily , tacky surface on small mammals

I use an auto tanner and follow the directions that come with it, also using the suggested tanning crystals and oil. Everything is drummed in hardwood sawdust and grit with a white substance (diametrous sp. earth)that Steve sells prior to mounting. I really like the results I get on my deer capes. But, on bobcats and fox I get this tacky feeling after the mount dries. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to remove this or prevent it from occuring? I tried mineral spirits but still didn't get the results I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Before I tan I wash in the washing machine adding Epo-Grip degreaser. I also add some mineral spirits to the grit in the tumbler. Make sure you get all the fat off the animals before the final tan. There is alot of grease on these animals especially in the feet.

Yep I have had that problem so I dont add any oil. Wash it with TIDE or ERA then check your tan, if needed retan.
