tanning information and advice on preparing fish skin

Submitted by Tristian Jones on 03/05/2004 at 05:06. ( tristian.jones@staffordshire.gov.uk )

I'm currently looking for information on how to tann and prepare the skin of a dogfish for use on a designer binding. Sourcing the skin is no problem as all I seem to catch lately are dogfish! but I would appreciate some advice on materials, chemicals and technique etc to get the skin usable for bookbinding. I do have access to a scientific chemical supplies catalogue and or specialist craft suppliers.
Any help and advice would be gratefully accepted

Fishskins are very unique and require special treatment to make them usable as leather. I would be glad to discuss it further with you.
