im about to try to tan my first hide. i ordered krowtann to try it with. it seems simple to do. my problem is i've been searching to archives for a way to rehydrate my cape thats been salted complely rock hard. i find lots of ways to rehydrate a cape thats already been tanned but thats no help. could i just soak it in water with some sort of antibacterial agent then staight into the tan.

Hides which are properly cured with clean salt normally have no need for a bactericide in the water. If you suspect excess bacterial growth prior to salting, feel free to add a bactericide. You don't even have to add salt to the rehydration solution. Because, of salt already in the skin.
so just a just a clean water soak to losen up the hide wold work then
