i did an experiment with my tanner on the difference between Y cuts and full length incisions. i put one of each in the tank at the same time for 2 hours, pulled out and fleshed on my machine. i found that the full length incision cape shaved easier than the Y cut. how could this be? so i did it again. i used 2 new capes and got the same outcome. any thoughts on that?

I have also had mature bucks let out, way out as much as three inches.
its just plain easier to get a better shave with an open cape!
if youve been around a wheel youll notice it, you get a better feel when the cape isnt folded, not too long ago most tanneries where charging extra for the short y's for this exact reason.im not saying you cant get a good thin cape thats short cut, it just takes longer.
just my opinion, ill still take my short y
