Stop Rot - Whitetail Designer Systems - & The Auto Tanner

Well I just had to add to this conversation.

If you check the archives you will find ALOT of favorable comments on Stop Rot from people using it on fish, turkey's and fur bearing critters. You may not find alot however, regarding it's use in or in conjunction with the Auto Tanner and I believe that is because Glen Conley has a tendency to make sure something works well together before he says it will.

While I've used Stop Rot for about 2 years on just about everything that comes through my door (I'd rather not wait to have a problem and then try to save it) when it comes to whitetail capes I brush it on the eyes, ears and mouth areas immediately and then as I skin it off the skull I brush it on the inside of the hide. It wasn't until I heard from the guys at Anthony Eddy's studio that I began adding it into my Leathering Acid in my Auto Tanner. While I'm not sure of the tanning chemicals they use they told me that they experienced a huge difference and the shaving of the hide became effortless.

Well....I'm into effortless.....so I gave it a try. I difference was noticable. I personally use the entire Whitetail Designer System for my tanning in my Auto Tanner and couldn't be happier with the results.

I've had conversations with a couple of guys telling me that there are "recipes" for acids you can use with the Auto Tanner that can get their costs down to under a dollar a cape.....but when many have stopped by our studio and they see and feel the shine and softness of the hair or see the nose and eyes that you don't have to rebuild or PAINT and for some reason their "recipe" doesn't seem quite as good and they end up giving Whitetail Designer Systems a shot.

Don't get me wrong....there are ALOT of tanning systems that are easy to use and that will get the job done. What I'm saying is FOR ME...I find that there are huge advantages using this system, including Stop Rot and they DO work well with the Auto Tanner. While it may not be the cheapest tan or even the easiest (I guess dusting with Borax would be cheaper & easier)I believe it's the best (and most forgiving) overall tanning system I've ever used and not ever having to worry about hair slippage or so many other things that COULD go wrong means I sleep alot better at night and that's worth ALOT.

Just my humble opinion.
Good luck to all.
Mark

For what it's worth

I was incredibly skeptical on anything that claims to "stop rot", I figured if the rot has started it'll eventually claim the victim. I spoke to numerous people at the MN show this past weekend and they only had high regards as to it's purpose in our shop. They say it works. From beginners to stubborn old timers to well known names in the field, the remarks about Stop-Rot where positive.

I'm ordering some. I'll be taking it infield on my next Wyoming mulie hunt as well. It's said to help spraying it on the animal right in field. I'm going to find out!

Stor-rot gets my vote

I too use stop rot on everything now! Like Mark I don't want to wait for a problem. All my capes get the royal treatment now...LOL

I have been using it on fish, mammals, and birds and love it! Ever get those freezer burned duck feet or duck left in the freezer for years? Inject them with stop rot and you won't beleive the difference! I also use it on the skins of good birds (not only problem skin).

I now make sure the inventory has that spare bottle available! Thanks Glenn!

Whoops,

are you adding the stop rot in you designer system, and why again. ive never tried wither one, but im interested. i use the standard bucktan crystals with the auto tanner and think they work awsome. they shave perfect. how much better is it with your system...and difference in cost? also how much cemical and stop rot do you use per cape. thanks mark.

Stop rot

I have had good results with the stop rot in conjunction with the bucktan crystals in the autotanner. I have had a few iffy capes and painted it on before putting them in the machine. Came out excellent. I too was a skeptic but stop rot application before tanning can make a difference. Before using stop rot on iffy capes you would get alot of loose hair in the bottom of the machine but there is zero hair loss on the ripe ones I have taken this preventitive measure on. Thanks for a great product, Mark
