Im working on a tumbler

before I finish putting it together I wanted to ask what a good size would be for tumbling birds or 1-2 WT CAPES. The way I have it set now is 30" high X 36" long, but I can still change this. I also have the ability to make it variable speed, would there be advantages to that? Should I put baffles inside the drum? Can I use the soft wood chips like they use in the sale barn for media?(bedding) Have I asked enough questions yet?

before you put in together,be sure that is what you realy want as the size.I've been doing my own tanning for 32 years and my opinion is,the tumbler that you want to build will not be good for anything bigger then a deer cape, for wehat you want to do ,I would just use an old dryer with no heat.Your tumbler has to turn at 30 RPM this is the same speed as a dryer. My tumbler is 72 x 24 You will need your (baffles)USE 3 of them so the skin will tumble not roll.
Let me know if you need help.Fine sawdust is the best for tumbling.
