I have had two deer capes in a pickle solution for three days. Today when I went to check the ph level and stir it up a bit it seem to have a odor that it did not have the previous days. Sorta like bad meat. Is this normal? I will be using the McKenzie tan and the instructions say you can stop and any point in the process and freeze until you can finish. Can I freeze at this stage now? Should I just take the capes out of the pickle let them drain a bit and roll them up and freeze? Thanks

What pickling method are you using. You didn't mention what PH your was at. Is there bacteriacide in it. How much salt.
PH is at 2.0 l.lb salt per gallon of water and no bactericide. I mixed just like the instructions for the McKenzie Tan.
somewhat, not what I would use for aftershave. Seems to be a combo of acid and skins making that smell, happens after a few days. Just watch the ph, it will be ok.
