I have a rooster that has a great cape but i need to know how to tan it.

You preserve it. You don't "tan" bird skins. Use borax if you want the cheapest way out or Dry Preservative if you want a better choice. Check the archives on "preserving bird skins".
Thank you I probably would have tried salting it.
Lutan-f will work.
Most folks use borax or instant preserve on the raw skin, but I have heard of others who use Lutan-F to tan the skin. Check the archives. I can't recall the exact formula, but they soak the bird skin for about a 1/2hour, and then mount. I've also salted birds for a guy who planned to transport them home and have another taxidermist mount them later....
Authenic makes a bird tan that works.
