Any words of wisdom, other than buying a fleshing machine, for beaver hides. I have one area where I can't seem to get down to the hide. I have a fleshing knife but I am reluctant to sharpen the edge too much. Also the area around the nose (cheeks) seems to be a problem getting off the fat, I have even tried a paint scraper - it got more than the fleshing knife. Maybe I just need to keep at it longer. I have pickled them in oxalic acid for 3 days and still have the issues. Do I need to remove the cartilage from the ears? Will a hand wire brush help? Is it better to have the flesh dripping wet or just damp? Any response is greatly appreciated. Jeffrey

Hi i have fleshed a couple beaver hides and what works good for me is a chunk of PVC pipe about 6 inch in diameter. Lay the hide over it and use a very sharp fish fillet knife. Around the face i use the PVC but instead of the fillet knife use a scalpel. Just be careful not to slice through the hide. It has worked for me hope this will help you out a little.
Yep thats the way to do it IF you have the time to..I would never again pick up a knife and hit the beam..Hydro is the ONLY way to go..I whatched a bear get done in 10 minutes to the hair tips without any damage.I am very lucky a good freind showed me.. Ruined for life.I did a coon in less than 5 minutes..Deer capes in 3 minutes once ya get the grip on how. With all the beaching here about how to do things fast, profitable and most of all EASY..
